TheBFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO really set the bar back in the 70′s when it first came out. I remember these got excellent mileage and nice even wear on practically anything they were mounted on back then. Nothings changed in those two areas for BFG’s All Terrain radial.
The thing I like about this tire is the 3 ply sidewall. Most tires are 2 ply. This is especially important if you go off road in an area with a lot of very sharp rocks. That extra side wall ply can make the difference of whether or not you get a side wall puncture. The other thing I like about this tire is it wears like iron.
Over the years I’ve had many customers who’ve owned this tire tell me they got over 50,000 miles on a set of these. While not the most aggressive tread pattern for off road use, the upside is they’re very quite on the highway unlike some off road tires that are very noisy. There are a lot of guys who’ve said they got between 70 and 100k on theirs in the review section at Tirerack.
BFG also makes a more aggressive mud terrain tire if you need more bite. Here are 4 really great features of the All Terrain TA KO:

There were a few negative reviews concerning traction on ice and balancing issues, but overall most people who bought BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO were very satisfied with them. As far as the ice goes, the more I think about it, the more I’m inclined to believe those guys should probably have had winter tires on instead. And as far as balancing issues go, I’ve balanced thousands of BFG’s over the years and never had any problems with them, so I tend to think the people who said they had balancing problems, probably had mechanical issues instead. Or, someone balancing that didn’t know what they were doing. Our local Costco comes to mind…
Buy or Don’t Buy?
Yes I would buy them for my own truck if I was looking for a great all around on-off road tire that will last at least 50K and provide a nice ride with low road noise. This is a great tire for the person who rarely goes off road but wants to know they can if they have to without sacrificing ride quality. After I wrote this article you can see in the video I put my money where my mouth is and installed a set on my own Bronco.
October 2011 Update: Now that I’ve run these tires for the last 6 months I can say these are better in every way than the Toyo’s I took off. I love my BFG’s.

I bought a set of these tires for my 2500HD work truck. I work in the oil field, and travel a lot on gravel roads and carry a heavy load most of the time. The tires that were on the back are down to about 25 to 30% tread left at 15,000 miles, and have a lot chunks out of the tread. A couple of my co-workers had issues with blow-outs on these tires at between 15-20k miles. It seems as if the tires are maybe just too soft to handle the continual abuse of gravel road. Most of my co-workers are using mostly Goodyear Dura-Trac’s and they seem to be holding up much better.
